Island News is published in part by Island Press, a division Hearst Magazines, Inc. The first issue was released on Nov. 24, 1931. The title was changed to the Stroller’s Weekly. It was later renamed the Island News Professional and Douglas Island News. H. B. Selby & E. S. Stevens edited the issue. The name was in use until March 3, 1933, when the last edition was published.

Island News Professional brought several new writers to Alaska to write articles about business on the islands and in the surrounding areas. It also included news and travel columns and a mining report and an article about Kenai Fjords National Park and an island weather report. A calendar of the cultural life of the island as well as mining and wildlife reports were also included. A significant addition was a local obituary. Island News Professional was primarily an online magazine, however it also had business-oriented pages. The pages were divided into two sections The Commercial Business section, which dealt with the owners of businesses and their businesses; and the Employment and Training section, that was designed to inform readers of local job openings. The section for businesses was meant to provide information on job openings and advertisements. The employment section featured a classified ad listing every kind of job that was available that included construction, fishing, general construction, landscaping, cleaning and all other trades. Island News Digest published the Kenai Peninsula News, a publication that featured local content. It focused mainly on the Kenai Peninsula, and covered everything from travel and tourism to arts and culture. In contrast to the Peninsula News, which was mostly business oriented it was the Kenai Digest was entirely designed to be a service for consumers. It featured information about family activities, education and culture as well as local government.

Other topics included culture, health, education, religion, technology, labor, business owners, and radio and television production. There was plenty of news on the Peninsula and the Kenai Peninsula.
